Single Stroke Roll Rudiment

by Boza on April 4, 2011

The single stroke roll one of the fundamental drum rudiments and we all find ourselves using it whether we are aware of it or not. Below is a video introduction to how it can be played.

Although I’ve been drumming for some time, I’m revisiting some of the basics of drumming to really try and improve my basic playing.  What better place to start than the single stroke roll?

I’ve set out a practice routine using the accuracy score on my Roland RMP5.  This is basically a way for me to set a metronome and see how accurately I am playing to it.  My best today was 79% accuracy at 150bpm.  I’m going to continue practising and hope to improve on both the accuracy and eventually speed.

I created a page that has more information on the single stroke roll drum rudiment.
